Sequence template to re-engage old leads

Three steps to revive leads who went quiet months ago, by bringing something genuinely new.

When to use these

  • Leads who had a demo or trial but did not buy, three or more months ago.
  • Lost deals where the reason was timing or budget, not fit.
  • You have something new to share: a feature, a price change, a result.

Email 1: what changed

Day 1 · Email

Subject: Since we last spoke, {{firstName}}

Hi {{firstName}}, When we spoke in {{month}}, {{theirConcern}} was the sticking point. Since then, we {{whatChanged}}. That should take care of it. Worth a fresh look? {{senderName}}

Why it works: Naming their original objection and what changed shows you listened, and gives a real reason to revisit.

LinkedIn note

Day 4 · LinkedIn message

Hi {{firstName}}, sent you a quick note about {{whatChanged}}, since it was the thing holding {{company}} back last time. Happy to share details here if easier.

Why it works: A second channel catches people who missed the email, with the same message.

Email 2: the light close

Day 9 · Email

Subject: Re: Since we last spoke, {{firstName}}

Hi {{firstName}}, No pressure at all. If {{problem}} is not a priority this year, a quick "not now" helps me know when to check back. {{senderName}}

Why it works: Asking for a simple "not now" makes it easy to reply and tells you when to try again.

Tips before you send

  • Wait at least three months after a lost deal before re-engaging.
  • Only restart the conversation when something has actually changed.
  • Refer to the original conversation; it makes the email clearly not a mass send.
  • Respect a second no and remove them from future campaigns.

Questions

  • How do you re-engage a cold lead?

    Wait a few months, then write with something new that addresses the reason they did not buy. Reference the original conversation and keep the ask small.

  • How long after a lost deal should I follow up?

    Three to six months is common, or sooner if you learn of a trigger such as new funding, a new leader or the end of a competitor’s contract.
