What this verifier checks

  • Format: is the address written like a real email address on a public domain?
  • Mail server: does the domain publish an MX record, so it can receive mail at all? We also show who hosts it.
  • Disposable domains: is it a throwaway-address service whose inboxes are rarely read?
  • Role addresses: is it a shared inbox like info@, sales@ or support@?

What it does not check

This verifier does not connect to the mail server to ask whether the exact mailbox exists. Many company servers accept every address and only bounce later, so that kind of check is often unreliable anyway. A "looks deliverable" result means the address is well formed and its domain accepts mail; it removes the addresses that would certainly bounce.

Why bounces hurt cold email

Mailbox providers read a high bounce rate as a sign of a careless or bought list, and they respond by sending more of your mail to spam, including the mail that was going to real people. Keeping bounces under about 2% protects the reputation of your sending domain.

Nothing you enter is stored. The check runs DNS lookups on the address’s domain and compares it against public lists of disposable domains.

Questions

  • Is this email verifier free?

Yes. You can check addresses one at a time without signing up. To verify a whole list automatically before every campaign, Reachbox runs the same checks on every lead you import.

  • Why is a role address like info@ marked risky?

Role addresses are shared inboxes. They reply less often, are more likely to mark cold email as spam, and some providers treat mail to them more strictly. It is usually better to find a named person.

  • Can it tell me if the mailbox really exists?

No. It does not probe the mail server. It confirms the address is well formed and its domain can receive mail, which catches the addresses that would certainly bounce.

  • What is a disposable email address?

An address from a service that hands out temporary inboxes, often used to get past signup forms. They expire quickly and are almost never read, so sending to them only adds bounces and wasted sends.

  • Can I verify a list of emails in bulk?

This page checks one address at a time. In Reachbox, every address in an imported list is checked before anything is sent, and the ones that fail are skipped.
