Cold email templates for agencies

Three cold emails for agencies that lead with something useful about the prospect’s business, not a list of services.

When to use these

  • You run a marketing, design, SEO, paid ads or development agency and want new clients.
  • You can spot something specific to improve on the prospect’s site, ads or funnel.
  • You have at least one result for a similar client you can mention.

The quick audit

Email

Subject: Noticed something on {{company}}’s {{page}}

Hi {{firstName}}, Was on {{company}}’s {{page}} and noticed {{specificIssue}}. On most {{industry}} sites that alone costs {{impact}}. Fixing it is usually a {{effort}} job. I put two more ideas in a short note: want me to send it over? {{senderName}} {{agencyName}}

Why it works: It proves you looked at their business before writing, and offers free value with no meeting attached.

The case study

Email

Subject: {{result}} for a {{industry}} company

Hi {{firstName}}, We helped {{clientName}}, a {{industry}} company about {{company}}’s size, go from {{before}} to {{after}} in {{timeframe}}. The main change was {{whatYouDid}}. I think {{company}} has the same opening because {{reason}}. Open to a 15-minute call to see if it fits? {{senderName}}

Why it works: A number from a similar business is the fastest way to earn trust, and the "because" shows you thought about their case.

The specific idea

Email

Subject: Idea for {{company}}’s {{channel}}

Hi {{firstName}}, Quick idea for {{company}}: {{idea}}. {{competitor}} started doing this last year and it now {{competitorResult}}. We do this for {{industry}} brands. Should I sketch how it would look for you? {{senderName}}

Why it works: Leading with an idea, and a competitor already doing it, creates interest without sounding like a sales pitch.

Tips before you send

  • Name one specific thing on their site or ads. "I can help with marketing" gets ignored.
  • Mention a client result from the same industry when you can. Generic results carry less weight.
  • Do not attach a deck or a PDF to the first email.
  • Send from a separate outreach domain so your agency’s main domain stays clean.

Before you send, check your draft for words and formatting that read like a promotion. Spam word checker →

Questions

  • How do agencies get clients with cold email?

    By picking a narrow niche, finding a specific problem on each prospect’s site or marketing, and leading with that problem and a relevant result. Volume matters less than how specific each email is.

  • Should an agency send a free audit in the first email?

    Offer it rather than attach it. Asking "want me to send it?" gets a reply, tells you who is interested and keeps the first email short and link-free.

  • How many follow-ups should an agency send?

    Two or three, a few days apart, each adding something new such as another idea or a short case study. Stop after that, or when they say no.
