Deliverability
Why you should verify emails before you send

Cold email lives or dies on deliverability. You can write the perfect message, but if it lands in spam, nobody reads it. One of the quickest ways to hurt deliverability is to send to addresses that do not exist.
What is a bounce?
A bounce is a message the receiving server rejects. A hard bounce means the address cannot receive mail at all, because the mailbox or the domain does not exist. A soft bounce is a temporary problem, such as a full mailbox or a server that is down.
Why bounces matter
Mailbox providers watch how senders behave. A sender who regularly writes to addresses that do not exist looks like someone who bought a list or scraped carelessly. Providers respond by treating your mail with more suspicion, and that affects every message you send from that domain, including the ones to real people.
What verification checks
- Format. Is the address a valid email address? This catches typos such as a missing @ or a stray space.
- Domain. Does the domain exist in DNS? An address at a domain that does not exist can never be delivered.
- Mail server. Does the domain publish an MX record, meaning a server that is set up to receive email? A domain with no mail server cannot receive your message.
Those three checks remove the clearly undeliverable addresses before any send. This is the verification Reachbox runs on every lead.
What verification cannot promise
Be wary of anyone who promises zero bounces. Some company servers accept mail for every address and only reject it later. People change jobs, and a mailbox that worked last month may be gone. Verification lowers your risk a lot, but it does not remove it.
Good habits after verification
- Stop sending to any address that bounces.
- Remove anyone who opts out straight away.
- Avoid generic role addresses such as info@ or sales@ unless the role is the right person to contact.
- Watch bounce and complaint rates as you scale, and pause if they climb.
Verification is not a nice-to-have step you do when you have time. It is the cheapest protection you have for the sender reputation that every future campaign depends on.
